Bobby Lashley wants to accomplish one thing in mixed-martial arts -- becoming the best heavyweight in the world.

Lashley has been training long and hard at the American Top Team Gym in Coconut Creek to get closer to that dream. His next step takes place Saturday when he faces former UFC fighter Wes Sims at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise.

It will be part of Strikeforce's fight card that also features Nick Diaz, former Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker, Robbie Lawler and Cristiane ``Cyborg'' Santos.

The 33-year-old Lashley signed with Strikeforce over other organizations because he says he wants to fight the best, and the man seen by many as the best heavyweight is Strikeforce's biggest star -- Fedor Emelianenko.

``When I was deciding on what company to sign with I looked at the heavyweight division first and foremost,'' Lashley said. ``Strikeforce is a great company and they air their fights on Showtime, but that wasn't the deciding factor. The fact that Fedor is here, and Alistair Overeem is here was the icing on the cake. I want to prove myself against the best.''

Lashley, who's also a pro wrestler who fights on TNA and formerly fought for WWE, has his sights set on Fedor, but he wants to be patient.

``I want to fight Fedor two to three fights from now,'' Lashley said. ``I feel I'm ready now, but then people will think I'm too cocky and over my head. At the same time by prolonging a match with Fedor then people will start asking themselves why I'm taking so long, and say I'm ducking him. I can't win. But all kidding aside I want to take my time before I fight Fedor. I'm going to learn and get better with each fight. I want to do it the right way.''

Even though he carries around a recognizable persona, Lashley is fine with being part of one of the preliminary fights for now, and not the headliner.

``I don't want to be a headliner until I fight Fedor, or Alistair,'' Lashley said. ``I'm only 4-0. Let the champions headline. Let the guys with 20-plus fights under their belt headline.

``I'm going out there and giving the fans what they want, but I think the main event is for the main-event fighters. I'm going to win Saturday night and eventually I'll get to that main event fight very soon.''
